What is Renters Guide?

Renters Guide is a Honolulu based   company under the management of Huakai Properties.   Formed by individuals who understand the frustrations of being a renter, Renters Guide is a solution that has been unavailable to the people of Hawaii.   Now, renters have the choice of searching for rentals the classic way or can decide to sit back and wait for property owners and managers to contact them with their listing.

How much does this service cost?

Renters Guide provides free applications for all potential tenants.   There is no cost to use the standard service and no deposits required to secure any of the listings.   Premium membership is offered at a reasonable cost and provides the applicant with many benefits and advantages.   See the membership section to learn more.

What makes this service different from existing resources?

The biggest difference renters notice is the speed at which rental matches reach them and the very little effort needed on their own behalf.   Once an applicant submits his/her information, the service does the rest.   Instead of you having to search through dozens of ads or listings, Renters Guide produces a personalized list of vacancies matching your property preferences.

How do I become a member?

You will need to navigate to the download page and click on the clipboard, which will prompt you to save the application (PDF).   If your computer doesn't have a PDF reader, there is a link provided that will allow you to install Adobe Acrobat®.   Once you have downloaded the file, print it out and fill out the information requested.   You then have a few options to submit your application to us.   Renters Guide accepts applications through the mail, fax or email.   That information is provided on the application itself, at the bottom of the download page as well as our contact page.   Your information will be reviewed, entered into our database and you will be sent a confirmation that your account is active and will begin receiving rental alerts.

I signed up for the free membership, so why am I being assessed a fee?

The free standard membership applies to the service Renters Guide provides.   Once you have applied to a property and the rental representative has approved your application, they may require prepayment to cover your tenant screening.   Renters Guide is not involved with this charge unless contracted to provide the screening service.   The nominal fee that Renters Guide charges is waived for premium memberships and standard members who have purchased the prescreening service.   Learn more about screening and what it means to you, here.

What's the difference between Standard and Premium membership?

The most detailed explaination of this can be found on the membership page. The basic difference is that premium members have greater access to services that Renters Guide provides. For example, premium members are scheduled first for site visits and are prescreened in-house, which makes their application that much more attractive to prospective landlords. The cost for premium membership is very reasonable and is no more than what a renter is expected to pay for two fee-based applications. Dispite this, standard members have full, unrestricted access to the same field of properties and will be given equal consideration by the property owner or landlord.

What are some other benefits of Renters Guide?

Since the process of filling rental vacancies is very standardized, we have been able to minimize certain repetitious actions the applicant must perform.   For example, after filling out the Renters Guide application, you won't need to fill out another applications for all of the rentals you apply to through our service.   Applicants also have a similar opportunity to limit their expenses by prescreening their account with Renters Guide and avoid having to pay multiple "application fees" to cover the landlord's cost of tenant screening.   Also, when both parties are ready, Renters Guide provides scheduling coordination between prospective renters and property owners.   We believe that's one headache you can live without.

What's a "rental alert" and how does that work?

A "rental alert" is the periodic notification of available rental properties that match your profile preferences.   You will not be able to control the frequency of these alerts, but are required to indicate which medium you wish to receive them through.   When either a volume of rentals is reached or a length of time has passed, your list will be generated and sent to you by mail, fax or email.

Can't I get similar results from the free service of Craigslist?

Actually, our services scour the Craigslist database for rental options.   So, even if you comfortable getting results from services such as that or local publications like the Advertiser or Star Bulletin, you don't miss out on those opportunities because Renters Guide matches your application profile with a dynamic range of housing vacancies. With Renters guide, the chances are: if it's out there, it'll find you.
